Reliance World Cup: India v Australia, 9 October 1987: Lost by one run
The Australians batted first and racked up 270 runs in Chepauk, courtesy a 110-run knock from opener Geoff Marsh. Srikkanth's 70 and Sidhu's 73 kept India in the hunt. The game went down to the final over where the home side needed six runs to pull off a victory with the last man Maninder Singh taking strike. Maninder Singh managed to run two 2's, but Steve Waugh, who was bowling the last over, finally nailed him with a delivery that crashed straight into the batsman's stumps. India's number eleven was accounted for and the home team lost a riveting contest by a margin of a single run.
Benson & Hedges World Cup: India v Australia, 1 March 1992: Lost by one run
The Indian innings was cut short by three overs due to rain interruption and the Australian target was reduced by two runs. Azhar's brilliant 93 and Manjrekar's aggressive 47 runs took India nearer to the target score of 235 runs. The last delivery of the innings saw India needing four runs to win the game with Javagal Srinath on strike. Srinath made a wild swing; the ball was retrieved by Steve Waugh, who then flashed in the throw to wicket-keeper David Boon. The Indians lost by a single run as Raju fell short of taking that one run which would have tied the game for India.
