It was 'Yes!' Marina for Hamilton with Red Bulls sniffing blood in the final Qualifying session of the Formula One 2009 season, which will certainly not go down as just-another-race after Button won the Championship as there was quite a bit of action on-track.
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton went for the kill in the Qualifying at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, racing to the top of the pack to start on Pole for the race. Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel grabbed P2, proving that he will be a strong contender for the Championship even in the next season. Team-mate Mark Webber completed Red Bull's domination of the grid by coming in at P3.
It looked as Brawn GP have set their eyes on the last podium finish of the season with Jenson Button putting up an impressive show and starting in P5 on the grid, being led by team-mate Rubens Barrichello in P4. Toyota had mixed fortunes with Jarno Trulli zooming ahead in P6 and team-mate Kamui Kobayashi (who is replacing the injured Timo Glock for the race) in P12.
Robert Kubica of BMW starts the race in P7 tomorrow and team-mate Nick Heidfeld will begin in P8. The last two races have significant gains for the team, which is ironic since this could be the last season for BMW in Formula One. Team Williams had a mixed day out with Nico Rosberg in P9 and Kazuki Nakajima staring the race tomorrow in P14.
A surprise performance by one of the Torro Rossos saw Sebastien Buemi notching up a commendable P10. Team-mate Jaime Alguersuari followed in P15. There was another shocker in the offing, as if the whole gamut of dramatics was not enough, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen could not go beyond Q2 in his Ferrari. He starts the race in P11. Team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella continued his slump with a dismal performance regaling to P20 on the grid.
Heikki Kovalainen faced a probable gearbox problem and was pushed off the track in his McLaren. He starts in P13, a stark contrast with his team mate Hamilton, who starts on the Pole.
